Subi

Subi is an imaginary pop-up cafe in the Central Business District, specialising in onigiris (Japanese rice balls). Dating back to the Heian Period, onigiris are now a popular snack for business workers to consume on their way to work. However, there is an absence of stores that sell onigiris in Australia. Thus, Subi was born.

The cafe also sells Japanese drinks (such as matcha and hojicha flavoured coffees) in addition to over-the-counter onigiris made fresh daily.

The logo is simple and geometric, based on the onigiri’s iconic triangle shape.  I also drew inspiration from how the onigiri’s triangular shape originates from the shape of a mountain. Subi means beauty and it is derived from omusubi (お結び), an alternative word for onigiri.
